Pre-production
Preparing for your recording (remote/online)
In preparation for your upcoming recording via an online service (eg., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Blue Jeans, etc) or via phone, below are our recommendations on how you can optimize the quality of the final audio product.
Use headphones or earbuds
Utilizing headphones or earbuds decreases audible bleed that can be heard when using computer speakers or speakerphone
Wired hardware is preferred (vs wireless/Bluetooth) to decrease risk of connectivity issues but is not required.
Conduct a personal sound check before you join the recording
Our producer or the host will also conduct a host/guest sound check once everyone joins the session
We’ll spend the first few minutes of each recording completing the sound check before the official recording begins
Record a local version on your smartphone or computer
Whether recording via an online service or regular phone call
You can send the recording via file sharing service after the recording session
Recording a local version serves as a back-up should there be any connectivity issues with the shared recording session
Pre-recorded content creates flexibility
As most sessions are pre-recorded, if you would like to pause, take a break, or re-record a response, please let the session participants know
Our production team will note the time code and adjust as needed in post-production
Anything else you want to share?
Once the core recording is complete, we’ll have an opportunity to reflect and determine if there is any additional content you would like to share with the target audience
Our goal is to ensure you leave the session having addressed everything you wanted to share
Hardware and Best Practices
If you’re shopping for recording hardware or looking for more best practices, check out our Recommendations page.
For an all-in-one headset/speaker unit, we recommend the Logitech USB H540 and you can find set-up instructions here.
